That\u2019s because writing one involves making choices.<\/p>\n<p>The effort to perform a task we\u2019ve done before is known in advance.<br \/>\nSo are the risks. There\u2019s social pressure to do what we promised, and<br \/>\nlittle friction in the way. It\u2019s work, but not challenging.<\/p>\n<p>Initiatives, on the other hand, go the other way around. The effort<br \/>\nand repercussions are unknown, and in many settings, the social pressure<br \/>\n to accept the status quo is high.<\/p>\n<p>The most important work we do is to make decisions. Decisions don\u2019t <em>seem<\/em><br \/>\n effortful (turn left or right, say yes or no) but the apparent risk and<br \/>\n emotional labor is real.
